The Problem with Existing PSTN and ISDN Services

In 2025 the PSTN is being Switched Off.

The 2025 switch-off is happening because the infrastructure that has been used for traditional phone lines that a lot of us use on a daily basis, is getting retired.

And even sooner than that, in 2023, the ability to buy new or add to existing phone lines will no longer be available either. This means if you are in need of existing phone line-based services, get them sorted now. This is especially worth keeping in mind if your contract renewals are coming up soon. It’s worth remembering that any new phone lines before 2023 are only temporary fixes. they will still become inactive in 2025 with the shutoff.

It’s not only phone lines that are going to need replacing, because the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) technology supports other services/devices, such as the ISDN (Integrated Service Digital Network). This would include your Broadband/Wi-Fi if your Broadband is supported by a single analogue line, meaning you could find yourself without internet.
